Wheels of Convenience: The Suitcase
I am on my bed trying to re-write about the suitcase that I see in front me. What would the world be like without a suitcase of any style? Strange, no further thoughts to it. Now, I am beginning to think more on how it is well designed.
First, the very generic way of how I use it. With a simple press of the top button and gentle upward pull extends a handle. Tilting it slightly and dragging it. All these to distribute the heavy weight of stuff. So much better than carrying on the shoulder, right?. Then there are the wheels, playing another crucial role in the process. They roll smoothly with a very minimal effort and since there are four of them, the suitcase stands upright on its own. If i want to lay flat, it can without any weird tilting.
It has two zippers, which I often get mistaken for. The top zipper is to expand its size and the other one is for opening the main compartment. Simple and elegant solution to fit in more stuff. The placement of handles are well thought. On the top for vertical carrying and on the side for horizontal carrying. The plastic body of it adds durability probably also for the overall weight of it. The hard shell can withstand my careless rough handling.
Not rocket science, but yes marvelous engineering.
